The Pros Need Spring Training so why not you?
No matter where you are with your running, Spring in Houston is the best time to maintain or build your running base to get trained up the primary running season during the summer, fall and winter months. The weather is cooler which makes training a lot more tolerable especially if you are getting back into the running groove after winter months.
If you recently finished a fall or winter race, Springtime is also the best time to get in shape or maintain your fitness.
Springtime is also a great time to work on improving your pacing, getting stronger and improving your race times from the 5K to marathon distance.
Our Spring Season includes training schedules to get in shape or train for any Spring or early summer race on your running calendar. On most weeks we offer Saturday morning long runs, Tuesday morning interval workouts (track and hills), Tuesday evening intervals or training runs at Memorial Park (social, trail or intervals) and an occasional monthly, Sunday morning trail run at nearby Houston, Texas and US parks.
Our group running memberships are loaded with a ton of benefits to get you running quickly, help maximize your engagement and minimize your injury risk. Not too mention you will meet and run with Houston's most welcoming running team which makes things more social and fun. Many lifelong running friendships have been made in our 22 year history. We'd love to see you running with our pack!
Here's a rundown of what's included in our Spring Season:
- 13 weeks of training - March 1, 2025 thru May 24, 2025.
- Saturday 6:30 AM organized, fluid-supported, coached runs. Run with the team and enjoy iced cold water and Gatorade along routes.
- Tuesday 5:15 AM interval workouts (track & hills). We start early so you can knockout your run before heading to work. We alternate weeks between track and hill workouts to help improve speed, power, strength and running form yet minimize risk of injury.
- Tuesday 6:15 PM interval workouts (track and hills) or just meet up with other members for a training run along the Memorial Park, 3 mile trail. This workout works great for those who aren't morning people or have to be at work early in the am.
- Occasional, Sunday morning trail runs at beautiful Houston, Texas & Federal Parks like Kemah/Seabrook Nature Trails, Brazos Bend State Park, Huntsville State Park, Lake Livingston State Park, Stephen F Austin State Park, Lake Houston Wilderness Park, Double Lakes Recreation Area and more. Coach Michael is your tour guide on these peaceful, wooded, challenging and sometimes hilly, adventure runs.
- Brenham Bluebell Ice Cream 5K-10K Group Road Trip! - Join us in the hill country on Saturday, March 22nd for your first BIG test of the season as we tackle the Bluebell Ice Cream run as we move our operation to Brenham, Texas for racing and "all you can eat" ice cream at the finish line!
- Free parking at our Saturday morning group long run home base meet-up place in the Houston Heights.
- Online maintenance or race training schedules easily accessible from a smartphone app. Our app emails you daily reminders on how many miles and what types of workouts you need to complete for optimal results.
- Full access to IFR Founder & Head Coach Michael Merlino via email, phone, FaceTime, WhatsApp video chat, video conference or 1 on 1 in person coffee talks to help you fine-tune your running strategy.
- Access to live and on-demand running webcasts with Coach Michael and guests on a variety of fitness and running topics to keep you coached up and motivated.
- Access to our members only app to check in for group runs and get up to date member news, race info, training tips and additional coaching.
- Team dry fit shirt! Every member receives their choice of a dry fit tank or T.
- Team Breakfast shirt! A comfy cotton/poly T-shirt to put on after those sweaty runs.
- 10% member discount at all Houston area Fleet Feet running stores. 20% off when we run a member Saturday long run from the Houston Greenbriar/Bissonnet store every other month during the season.

Also check out our and consider our Year Pass Option. Year Pass adds 35 more weeks to your training by bundling Spring Season with our Prime Season for a total of 48 weeks to give you an entire year of coaching, training and support. If Spring season doesn't work for you, consider our Prime Season which kicks off mid year on June 14th.
Just Started Running? Then Check Out Our Beginner "Launch" Program
If you are a true beginner who is just getting started with running, we also offer a Spring Beginner Program called "Launch". Launch offers an 18 week season that starts on January 25th and is designed for beginners who are just starting their running journey, are returning to the sport after an extended break and have a minimal running base. We recommend being able to at least intermittently run/walk a distance of 2-3 miles before joining us for the Launch program.
